Getting to Yes: The making of the Book!

In July of 2003 I signed a contract with T.F.H. Publications to write a book about horses. This week--over three years later--it is finally being sent off to the printer! It is scheduled to be released to stores around late March/early April of 2007. Things sure take time in the world of book publishing.

I was contacted by the then-publisher (Dominque) a few months prior to signing the contract. She told me that the company wanted to add to their already extensive catalog of pet related books with books about horses. I would be one of their first authors. Why me?

Dominique had done some research on the web and found my site. Seeing that I was interested in writing about my passion (horses and training) she approached me with the proposal that I write a book. My friends have often told me that I 'ought to write a book' mainly because I enjoy writing. But my reply was always 'perhaps some day'--maybe when I was 60 and had something important to say. When Dominique approached me I was taken aback at first and really had to think. It occurred to me that they were going to pay someone to write that book. I decided it might as well be me.

So the book was written and a manuscript submitted on time in February of 2004. Then internal business matters at T.F.H. kept the book on a back burner for 2 years! But FINALLY this past summer things started heating up. My editor went into high gear and did a great job. I got proofs of the layout and it is going to be a beautiful book. I am really happy with the results. I hope you all like it!
